How To Get Shiny Ditto Pokemon Go

To find Ditto in Pokémon GO isn't the easiest thing, as the little transforming blob is disguised as other Pokémon and won't reveal its true nature until after you catch it. For that reason alone, catching a Ditto has become its own achievement. Every so often, everything changes (thanks, Niantic), and Hoopa has been meddling in the Season of Mischief to keep you on your toes.

While Ditto won't help you against the Pokémon GO raid bosses or complete the latest Field Research tasks, it is a unique monster and necessary if you want to complete the ever-expanding Pokédex.

We'll take you through all Ditto disguises and how to find and catch Ditto in Pokémon GO. Keep in mind that the list of disguises changes over time, much like the updates for Team GO Rocket Grunts, so make sure to check back as updates for the game rollout.

Pokémon GO Ditto Disguises October 2021

Ditto has numerous disguises it uses. As touched upon, you can't 'see' Ditto in Pokémon GO. At least not on the world map or the finder. It's far too sneaky. During October 2021, Ditto will also be available as a Field Research Breakthrough reward - and it can be shiny, too!

Instead, you'll need to target specific Pokémon who Ditto is disguised as in the game. Then you'll need to cross your fingers that once you've caught said Pokémon, that it transforms into Ditto after the catch screen.

The current list of Pokémon that Ditto is disguised as can be found below:

  • Drowzee
  • Dwebble
  • Foongus
  • Gastly
  • Gulpin
  • Numel
  • Remoraid
  • Stunky
  • Teddiursa

The list of Ditto Disguises is always changing, especially when Pokémon get a shiny version in Pokémon GO. New events always have the chance to add a new Ditto disguise to look out for, so it's important to check the disguise list regularly. For instance, we presume Whismur has been removed from the Ditto pool due to the release of its shiny version during Pokémon GO Fest 2021.

If you're in need of a Ditto, perhaps to complete a specific in-game quest, such as step 3 in the "Let's GO, Meltan" Special quest, then you'll want to make sure you're targeting the above Pokémon as much as possible.

Be prepared to be disappointed quite a few times, but this is the best way to ensure you maximise your chances.

You could also invest in a Pokémon GO Plus device to maximise how many Pokémon you catch out and about. It's not a guarantee by any stretch, but it will help.

Is Ditto Shiny in Pokémon GO?

Yes! Finally, you can catch a shiny Ditto in the wild in Pokémon GO. The purple blob we all know and love can turn out to be a blue-ish turquoise blob instead, and we're much happier for it.

You'll also notice that several of the Pokémon that Ditto can transform into can be shiny, however, the two are not linked. If you find a shiny version of any of these Pokémon - for instance, a shiny Drowzee - it will not transform into a Ditto (shiny or otherwise).

However, regularly coloured versions of these Pokémon can transform into Ditto - and it could be shiny, even though the Pokémon you encounter is not!

Pokémon GO Shiny Ditto Special Research

The Pokémon GO: Kanto Tour event introduced every Generation I shiny form in the game, including Ditto. For anyone that purchased the ticket for the event, there is special research that can be completed for a guaranteed shiny Ditto.

Catching one in the wild is technically possible, but it's incredibly unlikely due to how rare Ditto already is. The Kanto Tour made catching one far more feasible for many players that own an event ticket.

Pokémon GO Ditto Disguises On April Fools Day

For one day only Pokémon GO threw out all the rules for catching ditto on April Fools Day.

Mischievous Pokémon were causing more trouble than usual in the game and on Thursday, April 1, 2021, Pokémon "prone to mischief" were appearing more often in the wild. The problem is, some of them were Ditto in disguise.

The Pokémon 'prone to mischief' included Aipom, Croagunk, and Purrloin.

Following the event, Purrloin stuck around and was added to the Ditto Disguises list. It goes to show, you always want to check back to make sure you know which Pokémon Ditto is disguising itself as.
